HOW TO CONQUER THE H&M BALMAIN COLLECTION

November 4, 2015 — by HuesOfMan0

A GUIDE TO HUSTLING THE CROWDS

All aboard- next stop, H&M Balmain Nation

The day is upon us! In less than 24 hours, the world will be gifted with the H&M x Balmain collection in stores and online on November 5th at 8am EST. Like past collaborations, this year’s highly anticipated collection is bound to sell out with in minutes. So, is it possible to snag a few pieces? Yes.

THE GAME PLAN

After some meticulous planning, I went down to my local H&M (Houston Galleria) to try and gather some intel regarding their plans for release. I found the store manager who graciously (yet defensively, because after introducing myself as a blogger, immediately said “No there will not be any special treatment!”), gave some insight as to what will be going on.

For Houston:

The H&M Galleria will be the only store in Houston that is receiving the highest level of inventory- meaning more availability for us. The doors will be open at 8am BUT as seen during the launch of the Alexander Wang release and Grand Opening, there will be a line that will be starting at the main entrance of the mall right by Banana Republic. The first 420 people in line will be receiving wrist bands to shop the collection. There will be about 25 groups consisting of 20 people each, with 15 minutes to shop. Once the time is up, you’re done, and whatever you can manage is grab is all you get. WOMP WOMP

So, what does one have to do to hustle some of the most coveted pieces? Heres how:

1. RESEARCH THE COLLECTION
Take a look right now on HM.com/Balmain and study the pieces. For women there is a lot, but for guys, the collection is much more limited. Try narrowing down the ones you want, make a list with the prices that you are committed to paying, and stick to that list. In addition, make sure you know your sizes as there will be no time to try things on.

2. KNOW WHERE TO BE, AND WHEN
For those of us going the in-store route, know what stores will have which pieces, know where the lines will start forming, and know when the doors will be opening. It’s also important to estimate when the line will start forming. Based on past H&M collabs, lines can start forming 12 hours or more before the store opening. Plan ahead and be there early! 3. BREAK THE INTERNET
For those trying the online route, make sure you have a good connection, Do not refresh the browser, and have multiple browsers, devices, assistants etc. to help you out. These items will sell out within minutes, so have everything ready to go and have your payment information saved for a speedy checkout. Also, make sure and pay for the items immediately after you put them in the cart. Don’t wait to have your cart full because putting them in your cart does NOT reserve them.

4. USE THE BUDDY SYSTEM
Divide and conquer is the best solution to getting what you want. Bring someone that can come with you and wait in the line so that you can take shifts for eating, sleeping, and peeing. Once in store both of you can peruse the racks and acquire your items. If you are forced to go solo, socialize and form alliances with your line neighbors.

5. KNOW YOUR LIMITS
H&M has a strict policy regarding the return of these items, as well as a limit on how many you can buy. There will be 2 per item and returns/exchanges must be made by November 8.

6. BE MENTALLY PREPARED
The grueling 10+ hour wait will be tough, so make sure you are comfortable while waiting in line. Bring a pillow, blanket, foldable chair, etc. with you to keep yourself comfy.

If all else fails, don’t fret. There will be some people who will be returning items after launch day so be persistent and keep checking to see what comes back. If worse comes to worst, you can try eBay…(eff-you to all the bulk buyers who are jacking up the prices!)

May the odds be ever in your favor. Seriously. It’s going to be a bloodbath.

GOOD LUCK!
